Another great reason to live in the Greater Fall River MA area is the easy access to the ocean inlets and freshwater waterways which meander throughout the southcoast region. Boating and fishing or just taking in the sights while walking are only minutes away. Leave your car in the parking lots at Battleship Cove or Bicentennial Park and stroll the Taunton River for nearly 2 miles while watching boats and water foul on the river. Recreational crafts like kayaks, motorboats, and sailboats share the base of the river with tugs, fishing boats and huge coal filled tankers. Seagulls share the shoreline with ducks, swans, cormorants and an occasional egret. For a different boating experience in the Greater Fall River area, just travel about six miles west from downtown Fall River across to Somerset where you can launch you boat or canoe into the Taunton River at the town ramp located at the Somerset Waterfront Park just off Main Street. From here you can easily travel to Dighton Rock, or in and out of the many tributaries feeding the Taunton River. Enter into a world hardly ever seen by man. There are no roads to reach many of these spots, so only from the water can you see these beautiful sights.  

Just 8 miles from downtown Fall River in the opposite direction, a short drive down Route 88 in Westportwill bring you to another picturesque spot to launch a canoe or kayak at the "Head of Westport". From here you can travel south on the east branch of the Westport River. What starts out as a small stream eventually brings you out to Westport Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. As the river widens you pass many inlets and small islands inhabited only by birds and small wildlife. As the river widens more, boating, sailing and other recreational activities are all around. Finally as you pass under the bridge at Route 88 and you enter the harbor all you can see are the masts of hundreds of sailboats moored in the protected harbor, just minutes from the Atlantic.

So don't be a couch potato this summer! Get outside and see the sights! They are only minutes away when you are in the Greater Fall River Area!
